Zoller Attila - The Big Beat címú lemeze 1965-ben látott napvilágot a philips jóvoltából. A felvételeken Claus Doldinger Grouppjával együtt játszik 12 felvételen. Zoller életéről sokkal bővebben a Joka Jazz Kutatási Alapítvány oldalán olvashat bárki.
Zoller Attila számos lemeze került restaurálás alá 2002-óta. Csak néhány a felsorolásból.
A jövőben ha lesz rá érdeklődés akkor ezek az albumok is felkerülhetnek az oldalra, mivel ezek a lemezek kifejezetten a Klasszikus jazz műfajába sorolhatók.

Zoller Attiláról elmondható, hogy igen neves világhírű előadókkal játszott együtt, Amerikától Európn keresztül egészen Japánig. Simon Géza Gábor nemrélgiben egy könyvet is kiadott " Mindhalálig gitár " címmel. Ebben próbálva összefoglalni a zenei munkáit és életét.

The Hungarian-born Attila Zoller was never quite a household name, but jazz musicians in the know considered him one of the music's finest and most original guitarists. After initially achieving a reputation as an excellent bop-oriented player, Zoller developed an interest in free jazz, and in the '60s became one of the music's most accomplished practitioners.

As a child, Zoller was taught classical violin by his father, a professional violinist. In his teens, he switched to flügelhorn, then jazz bass, and finally guitar. Zoller quit school during the Russian occupation of Hungary following World War II and began playing professionally in Budapest jazz clubs. He escaped Hungary in 1948 just before the permanent Soviet blockade of the country, hiking across the mountains to Austria, carrying just his guitar and a few articles of clothing. Zoller became an Austrian citizen, settling in Vienna, where he formed a jazz group with the accordionist Vera Auer. Zoller moved to Germany in the '50s, where he played with pianist Jutta Hipp and saxophonist Hans Koller. Visiting American musicians (notably Oscar Pettiford and Lee Konitz) admired Zoller's work and urged him to move to the U.S., which he did in 1959 after winning a scholarship to the Lenox School of Jazz. There he studied with Jim Hall and roomed with Ornette Coleman, whose influence sparked Zoller's interest in free jazz. Zoller played in drummer Chico Hamilton's group in 1960 and with flutist Herbie Mann from 1962-1965. In 1965, Zoller began leading a free jazz-influenced group with the pianist Don Friedman, and in 1968 co-led a group with Konitz and trombonist Albert Mangelsdorff. Zoller never turned his back on more traditional forms of jazz, playing swing with vibist Red Norvo and clarinetist Benny Goodman, and bop with saxophonist Stan Getz, among many others. In 1974, Zoller founded the Attila Zoller Jazz Clinics in Vermont (Zoller incorporated in 1985 and the clinics became the Vermont Jazz Center). He remained active as a performer — in the U.S. and overseas — until the end of his life. During the '80s and '90s, he recorded several albums for the Enja label with such artists as vibist Wolfgang Lackerschmidt and guitarist Jimmy Raney, as well as longtime collaborators Konitz and Friedman.

A közelmúltban szerepelt egy válogatás három igen neves muzsikussal, akik trióban játszottak. Akkor is felmerült az a dolog, hogy bizony nehéz hárman igazán ütős muzsikát játszani. Nos most itt egy másik válogatás, mondhatnám - a melankólikus világból származtatott és csodálatosan előadott természetesen triók halmaza! A listában szereplő nevek, úgyérzem magukért beszélnek. A felvételek nagy többsége a 60-as, és 70-es évekből származik.

PAVEL KUHN’S CHORUS
OSTRAVA RADIO POPS ORCHESTRA
Conductor: PAVEL STANÉT

Few peopie can probably be found in the musicaily more sophisticated countries who have not, at some moments in their lives, tried to piay the harmonica and learn the way its pitch is manipulated by exhaiing and inhaling. Harmonica playing Is similarly widespread as, for instance, table-tennis, and a similarly wide gulf lies between an incidental pingpong dilettante and a celluloid-ball magician from (let us say) Japan, as between someone who can manage “Jingle Belis” on the mouth.organ, and a real virtuoso master of the popular tiny instrurnent.
LUBOMIR PLEVA, b. July 31, 1929, at Grygov near Olomouc, Is a true master of the harmonica, or rather the chromonica, a version of the instrument which features ali 12 notes in the octave. Since this LP recording was meant to give Pleva the opportunity to employ the full range of his technique, the entire Side 1 features compositions dominated by virtuoso elements, or concert compositions in which Pleva can demonstrate his breathing technique, his phrasing, and the entire array of the skilis of a fine instrumental soloist. Side2features Pieva in lyric compositions or entertainment numbers. Throughout, his partner Is the Ostrava Radio Pops Orchestra under Pavel Stank, a body which shows how many reaiiy good instrumentalists can be found even in Czechoslovakia’s less well-known ensembies. The reai co-author of this recording is arranger Zbyek Bittmar, also of Ostrava, who knows sufficiently the potential of this special instrument, and with whom our soioist has had a working partnership since his very first public appearances.
Lubomír Pieva took up music-making at the age offive when he started to study the violin, and upon his graduation from secondary schooi he had to choose between a musical or a sports career. Sport—track and field —won, and Pleva graduated in 1953 from the University of Olomouc as secondary school teacher of physical education. However, his interest in music had not waned: Pleva was the leader of the university’s cymbalom band, from time to time he played the bass in jazz bands, and his fans at the University Ciub often made him perform the harmonica skills he had practised on the long trips to sports meets. In 1955, Plevafirst performed at Czechoslovakia’s top amateur music competition — and placed first. (50 did he in ali the competitions in CSSR in which he took part later.) At that time he was already recording for the Brno Radio, and his success with the listeners also brought him engagements with the Ostrava Radio. Pleva has recorded by
now some 150 highly varied items far broadcasting purposes, pius incidental music far films, theatrical stages and TV shows. His international successes have also become increasingly notable since his first performance — in 1964 — far the taperecording competition organized by the Fédération lnternationale de l’Harmonica at Trossingen. He first appeared in person at the 1968 Harmonica Weltfestspiele at Lucerne, where he placed 3rd, but in a similar competition at Eindhoven (Holland) he was already lst in the harmonetta category (the harmonetta is roughly speaking — a harmonica with a keyboard), and finally, in 1972, he managed a “grand slam” at Baarn (Holland), where he placed first in both categories, and on top of that won the Main Festivai Prize far the best artistic performance. With that, Pleva secured a permanent position among the world’s best harmonica blowers, not only through his technical skill, but also because of the extensive range of his repertoire, from classical subjects to jazz improvisation. He has achieved ali that as an amateur: his actual profession is still that of secondary school teacher at Plerov, a mediumsize Moravian town.

Rudy Van Gelder (recording engineer)
Recorded 03 June 1960 at
the Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, N. J.

Betty Roché should have been much more famous. She had two barely documented periods with Duke Ellington's orchestra and recorded three excellent albums as a leader from 1956-1961 (all of which are available on CD), but then faded away into complete obscurity. This reissue (which is mistakenly given the incorrect date of January 24, 1961, which was actually Roché's following release) matches the singer with tenor saxophonist Jimmy Forrest, organist Jack McDuff (near the beginning of his career), guitarist Bill Jennings, bassist Wendell Marshall, and drummer Roy Haynes. Roché performs nine famous standards, coming up with fresh variations in her phrasing to such numbers as "Come Rain or Come Shine," "When I Fall in Love," "Blue Moon," and "Billie's Bounce." Recommended, as are all of the other recordings in her slim discography.

Hungarian Radio Recording, Made in Hungary ( P ) 1977

Csík Gusztáv a magyar jazz kiemelkedő képviselője, 1945-ben Egerben született. Zenei tanulmányait a miskolci kanzervatóriumban folytatta. A magyar jazzélet legjelentősebb alkatáműhelyében, a Rádiá stúdiáiban végzett eredményes munkájáért, kompozícióiért többször is nyert kitüntető címeket (p1. „A legjobb szólista” díj 1972-ben). Rendszeresen szerepelt az NSZKban, Svájcban, a skandináv országokban, Csehszlovákiában, Jugoszláviában. Kam pozícióinak sajátsága a rock talajra ültetett melodikus improvizációi. Berkes Balázs, a Rádió együttesének, a Stúdió-nek állandó basszus-játékosa adja elő Csík kampozícióinak olykor rendkívüli ritmus-igényű basszusgitár ill. bőgő szólamát. Jávory Vilmos, dobos immár két esztendeje nélkülözhetetlen megvalósítója Csík rockos kampozíciói ritmusának, de saját tehetségét, temperomentumát is kifejezésre tudja juttatni rövid, átgondolt, bonyolult szólóiban.

A Tűzkerék Revival Band 1990-ben alakult. Radics Béla és Jimy Hendrix számait játszotta.. Később tagcserék miatt a nevüket Tűzkerék R.B.-re változtatták. A változások a zenei koncepciót nem befolyásolták, továbbra is blues alapú rock zenét játszottak. A túzkerék XT. 2002 nyrától tró formában működött tovább.

Ők voltak a XX. század legjelentősebb gitáros géniuszai.

Henry Hall (& his BBC Dance Orch) ], (30's)
b. London, 2 May, 1898, d. Eastbourne, 28 October, 1989

16 tracks [1932-1936]

Henry Hall is best remembered for the five year period in the 1930's when he directed the BBC Dance Orchestra and was the most popular radio star in Britain receiving the largest fan mail of any broadcasting artist, but that was only part of a most successful career as bandleader, composer, arranger, impresario and broadcaster.
As a youth, Henry worked with the Salvation Army's Musical Services division. His formal musical studies were at the Guildhall School of Music and also at Trinity College where he studied piano, trumpet and harmony. After WW1, he worked as a pianist in silent picture theatres, and formed his own trio, The Variety Three, disbanded in 1922.
His first break came in 1922 when he joined the LMS Railway Hotel chain as a pianist and ten years later he was the Musical Director for the hotels controlling 32 bands. In the middle of 1924 he formed a band for the new ultra-grand Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire,Scotland, and broadcast for the first time from the opening night ball. Henry made a few records for COLUMBIA (from 1924) over the next two years but no real impact was made outside the hotels until Thursday 31 July 1930 when he made his first late night broadcast from Gleneagles. (Note: From the late 1920's until 1936 the BBC would broadcast live dance music between 10.30pm and midnight, - six nights a week.) From then onwards Henry Hall and his Gleneagles Band was broadcasting practically every week. When the Gleneagles Hotel closed during the winter months, Henry would transfer to either the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool or the Midland Hotel in Manchester, and in this latter venue the band started recording for DECCA in March 1931. Henry's first record hit was his arrangement MUSICAL COMEDY SWITCH (Decca K..581) and on one of those first Decca sessions the innovative British jazzman Spike Hughes deputised on string bass and probably Henry's jazziest record I LOST MY GIRL FROM MEMPHIS (Decca F.2330) was the result. The Gleneagles Band broadcasts attracted a lot comment as the band was small for a regular broadcasting unit - about six musicians - which could hold an unseen audience for 90 minutes without a vocalist. Their signature tune was COME YE BACK TO BONNIE SCOTLAND.
The BBC were impressed and when their resident dance bandleader, Jack Payne, decided to leave to go on tour, Henry was invited to form a new BBC Dance Orchestra. Many in the London musical profession were shocked that a leader from "the provinces" had been given the prestigious job and music critics were scathing about the new band but Henry soon won the hearts of the British public with his fine music and quiet but engaging personality, and led the band to even greater popularity than before. Their first broadcast was on March 15th 1932 and was also notable for being the first transmission from Broadcasting House, London. Henry introduced his two new signature tunes, opening with IT'S JUST THE TIME FOR DANCING and closing with the still warmly remembered HERE'S TO THE NEXT TIME. For the next five years the Orchestra was heard most week days with regular daily broadcasts at 5.15pm, every Thursday on the late night spot, later alternating Saturday nights with the Ambrose Orchestra. With the BBC post came a new recording contract with Columbia and the band had an enormous hit in its first year with TEDDY BEARS PICNIC (Col.DB.955/FB.2816) which went on to sell a million. Henry realised that a lot of youngsters would be listening to his afternoon programmes and he introduced a lot of numbers like TEDDY BEARS PICNIC to appeal to them. There was something for all the family.
Jack Payne had established a hot rhythm style as leader of the BBC Dance Orchestra, but Henry decided that a radically different approach was needed to identify his band. Less emphasis on brass and more on melody (the new 1932 BBC band even sported a cello)!!. Henry's many vocalists included Val Rosing, Les Allen, Kitty Masters, Phyllis Robins, Dan Donovan, Leslie Douglas, Bob Mallin, Flanagan & Allen, Gracie Fields and George Elrick. The band increased size over the years until in March 1936 there were 27 instrumentalists and vocalists. American Benny Carter was added to the impressive list of arrangers which included the band's pianist Bert Read, Ronnie Munro, Phil Cardew and Burton Gillis, the saxophonist who joined Henry in 1929 and stayed until the war. Although few of Carter's scores were recorded, his work can be heard to great effect on I'M PUTTING ALL MY EGGS IN ONE BASKET (Col.FB 1364), BYE,BYE,BABY (Col.FB 1547) and ONE,TWO, BUTTON YOUR SHOE (Col.FB 1627). The BBC Band was at its glorious best between 1935 and 1937 when the band had a big sound. Surviving broadcast recordings show that the band would tackle such material as STOMPIN' AT THE SAVOY while its Columbia records concentrated on the popular songs of the day.
In 1934 Henry introduced a new presentation with his "Guest Nights" which was to continue into the 1950's, long after he disbanded. Over the years many of the great American songwriters like Irving Berlin , Harry Revel and Mack Gordon, appeared with the band on air. On August 4th 1936 a half-hour programme featured the music of Johnny Mercer with Mercer himself singing I'M BUILDING UP TO AN AWFUL LETDOWN, GOODY GOODY and I'M AN OLD COWHAND. This complete programme is available on CD - "Henry Hall's Hour" Radiogram RGM 001- a real treasure. Henry made several trips to the States to learn about developments in dance music and he directed the music on the maiden voyage of the liner RMS Queen Mary in May 1936. However, Henry was a well-known supporter of British songwriters and he himself had considerable success with his own IT'S TIME TO SAY GOODNIGHT.
Compilations recently released on cd are:- 1. Vocalion 6008 'HENRY HALL - Music Goes 'round And Around', containing 26 tracks recorded between 1932 and 1936. 2. ASV 5222 containing 24 tracks recorded between 1932 and 1939. 3. MFP 6356 containing 25 tracks recorded between 1932 and 1939. The vocalists included Dan Donovan; Kitty Masters; Les Allen; George Elrick; Hildegarde; Flanagan & Allen; Len Bermon; Bob Mallin: and Val Rosing. There are not many duplicated tracks on the three cd's. Earlier compilations were:- 'Henry Hall & The BBC Orchestra' 1971, 'This Is Henry Hall' 1978, 'The Golden Age of Henry Hall' 1974, 'Here's To The Next Time' 1985, 'Help Yourself To Happiness' 1986, 'What A Perfect Combination" 1986, 'Love Is The Sweetest Thing' 1987, 'My Dance' 1988, and 'Seeing Is Believing' 1988.
On 25 September 1937, The BBC Dance Orchestra directed by Henry Hall made its farewell broadcast and was back on air on September 30th as Henry Hall and his Dance Orchestra. The band went on tour to an enormous reception. Apart from the Orchestra's starring role in their film MUSIC HATH CHARMS in 1935, and a few appearances at the London Palladium amongst others, most people hadn't actually seen the band perform. When Henry and the boys arrived at the Central Station in Glasgow the police were called out to control the enthusiastic crowds. Over the next two years the Orchestra toured Britain and Europe and continued to record on COLUMBIA. In 1938, the band visited Germany and played the National-Scala Theatre in Berlin.
The band recorded for COLUMBIA in the UK, but his recordings were limited somewhat by his broadcast work and to provide 'something for everybody'. In Australia many of the releases were on RZ using the pseudonyms of 'The Rhythmic Troubadours' and also 'Silver Screen Orchestra'. This was possibly to allow for sales at a lower price. Unfortunately no details of the orchestra can thus be gleaned from the RZ label from these pseudonyms, and in consequence he was not known as well in Australia.
The first records to be released with the BBC band were Bing Crosby's 'Where The Blue Of The Night' and 'Songs That Are Old live Forever'.
The band kept going during the war and for some years after until Henry diversified his activities and became a successful businessman.
