Neményi Lili

(Igló, 1902. nov. 28.–Bp., 1988. júl. 13.): színésznő, énekesnő (szoprán). Színészcsaládban született. Nevelőapja, Neményi László társ.-ában kezdte pályáját. 1921–22-ben Szabadka Józsefnél, 1922–1927 között Kolozsvárott, 1927–28-ban Szegeden, 1928–29-ben a Fővárosi Operett és a Magyar Színházban szerepelt. 1929–1931 között Miskolcon, 1931–32-ben Kolozsvárott, 1932–33-ban a Royal Orfeumban, 1933–34-ben ismét Miskolcon lépett színpadra, majd vidéki vendégfellépéseket vállalt. 1936–1939 között férje, Horváth Árpád mellett a debreceni színház társigazgatója és művésze volt. Debrecenben Hoór-Tempis Erzsébettől tanult énekelni. Bp.-en 1937-ben a Városi Színházban, 1939-ben a Dunaparti Színpadon, 1940–41-ben a Pódium Kabaréban lépett fel. 1942-ben, rövid ideig Inke Rezső társ.-ának tagja volt. Ezután vidéken, valamint munkásmatinékon, lokálokban, kávéházakban működött. 1945-ben ismét a Pódium Kabaré szerződtette. 1946-tól 1967-ig az Operaház magánénekesnője volt, de gyakran hívták külföldre is. 1971-ben és 1974-ben Debrecenben még fellépett. Több önálló estet szerkesztett, amelyeket külföldön is bemutatott. Pályáját primadonna- és szubrett szerepekkel kezdte, majd prózai naivaként is bemutatkozott. Népszerű sanzonénekesnő volt, de megtalálta helyét az operában is. Színészi tehetsége különösen vonzóvá tette játékát. 1974-ben a debreceni színházban Neményi Vándorserleget alapított. Neményi Lili és Horváth Árpád emlékét a pesterzsébeti múzeumban emlékszoba is őrzi. 1967-ben kiváló művész kitüntetést kapott. F.Sz. A close-harmony vocal quartet with few equals during the '50s, the Ames Brothers hit number one in 1950 with "Sentimental Me," and found their biggest hit three years later

with "You, You, You." Though they were indeed a family group, the Ames Brothers' surname was actually Urick. Joe, Gene, Vic and Ed were all born within four short years of each other in Malden, Massachusetts. After winning a few talent contests in their hometown, the group moved to Boston and began performing in nightclubs. They soon made the leap to New York and even Los Angeles, and signed to the Coral label in late 1958. After a few moderate hits, the Ames Brothers hit big in early 1950 with a double-sided number one hit, "Rag Mop"/"Sentimental Me." The B-side eventually triumphed over its flip, and the group hit again later in 1951 with "Undecided." The biggest hit of the Ames Brothers' career was 1953's "You You You," and their continued success during 1954 with "The Naughty Lady of Shady Land" bore fruit in the form of their own television program.

Though the quartet continued to record throughout the '50s, the dawn of the rock era definitely damaged their career; the group managed two Top Ten hits in 1957 ("Tammy," "Melodie d'Amour"), but then folded in 1959. Ed, the youngest Ames brother, continued a performing career and appeared as an Indian named Mingo on the Daniel Boone TV series before hitting the Top Ten as a solo act with 1967's "My Cup Runneth Over." He also appeared on Broadway.

A szokásos módon, a felvételek ujradiditalizálása után, jókora javítgatáson kellett hogy résztvegyenek, mivel az eredeti gyári felvltelek is rendkivül gyenge minőségűek voltak. Beszereztem az eredeti Hungaroton CD-ket is de még azok is sajnos ugyan olyan minőséget tudtak nyújtani. Ami még meglepő volt, hogy a CD egyes felvételei rosszabbul szóltak mint az LP-n levő felvételek. Remélem igy ebben a formában azért már jobb kedvel hallgathatja az aki szereti ezeket a régi időket felidéző nótákat.

Ronnie Earl

Ronnie Earl was born Ronald Horvath in Queens, New York, on March 10, 1953. After picking up his first guitar twenty years later, he went on to stretch the boundaries of electric blues guitar playing higher, lifting hearts and souls a little higher as he did. Like a harmonic seventh note sliding its way into a piece of music before being felt, he would eventually emerge into the New England blues scene as a budding young guitarist.

In 1963, when he was ten years old, Ronnie�s parents signed him up for piano lessons, which he quickly abandoned, discovering that he disliked the discipline of practicing. He graduated from Forest Hills High School in New York in 1971. After high school, Ronnie attended C.W. Post College on Long Island for a year and a half studying American History. It was during these early college years that Ronnie first started playing the guitar. Eventually he transferred to Boston University where he would graduate in 1975 with a Bachelor�s Degree in Education & Special Education. Ronnie spent a short time teaching and working with children with special needs in the Newton school system, as well as the League School in Government Center. In 1973, Ronnie purchased a Martin acoustic guitar; however, he returned it the very next day for a Fender Stratocaster. He took a serious musical turn toward the blues after attending a Muddy Waters concert at the Jazz Workshop, a small club in Boston. By his third year in college Ronnie was seriously pursuing the guitar, now practicing hours at a time having rediscovered the discipline that would continue to serve him well throughout his life. Ronnie has said that musically it was his time to �catch up with the world.�

A long-time Broadcaster and veteran of the New England music scene, Lorne Entress has provided the backbeat for many an artist including, Junior Wells, Susan Tedeschi, Duke Levine, Ellis Paul, The Nields, Charlie Musselwhite, Kris Delmhorst, Erin McKeown, Henry Butler, Johnny Adams, Mighty Sam McClain, Vance Gilbert and many others. Dave Limina

Dave Limina, Hammond B3, Piano

Dave Limina is an Assistant Professor in the Piano Department at Berklee College of Music, where he received the Most Valuable Contribution to the Performance Curriculum Award in 2001 for his work in developing the Hammond organ program. An experienced session keyboardist, composer, and arranger, Dave has performed with Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters, Lori McKenna, Duke Robillard, Paula Cole, Mark Murphy, Robert Lee Castleman, and the first national touring company of the Broadway musical Rent. He received Boston Music award nominations for his work with Courage Brothers, Ronnie Earl, and Mighty Sam McClain. He played keyboards on Michelle Willson's Wake Up Call, which was a Boston Music Awards winner in 2001. Dave does extensive session work in Boston and New York featuring his piano, Hammond organ, and vintage keyboard playing. He is the author of Hammond Organ Complete (Berklee Press) and the instructional video/DVD Accelerate Your Keyboard Playing. He is a monthly contributor to Keyboard magazine of Japan.

Jim Mouradian

Jim Mouradian, Bass

Jim Mouradian has been a member of Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters since 2000. Jimmy grew up immersed in a family of classically trained musicians, picked up a bass in junior high and has been playing ever since. He is also a legendary luthier, who has designed his own line of Mouradian guitars and handles every guitar he works on with meticulous detail. He and his son, Jon, operate Mouradian Guitar Repair in Cambridge, MA, where they are known as "guitar gods" and "guitar repair wizards", although Jimmy insists that his favorite role is that of being a dad and grandfather. Tom Hazeltine, Road Manager and contact person for bookings and all other inquiries. Tom Hazeltine is the contact person for all bookings and inquiries, as well as the road manager for Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters and has been a fan since the early "Roomful of Blues" days. Ronnie jokes that he hired Tom as the Road Manager, because "we don't go out on the road." Tom feels he has the better part of the deal, because now when Ronnie plays somewhere, they ask him to come along! Tom keeps an eagle eye on Ronnie and the band during the flow of a concert and both he and his wife, Suwanna, show up early and stay late doing whatever needs to be done. Listening to Zachary Breaux's commercial work on Laidback, it's clear that the guitarist was capable of a lot more. That said, this isn't a bad album -- it isn't a masterpiece, but it's enjoyable most of the time. Mindful of George Benson's more commercial instrumental work, Breaux gets into a likable jazz/R&B/pop groove on such originals as "Small Town in Texas" and "West Side Worry." Harmonica great Toots Thielemans has pleasant, if unremarkable, cameos on John Barry's "Midnight Cowboy" and Breaux's mellow title song, while singer Audrey Wheeler joins Breaux for a vocal duet on a cover of Little Anthony & the Imperials' 1960s hit "Going Out of My Head." Though Breaux wasn't a bad singer, this track really belongs to Wheeler. Make no mistake: Laidback is a decent CD -- although it's a shame to hear Breaux simmering so much of the time when you know he was quite capable of burning. ~ Alex Henderson, All Music Guide
