In 1945, Teddy Edwards switched from alto to tenor saxophone to join trumpeter Howard McGhee's quintet and begin a two-year association that resulted in classic bebop recordings on the old Aladdin, Dial, Melodisc, and Modern Music labels. McGhee went on to other pursuits, and Edwards stayed in Los Angeles to become one of the most respected tenor men on the West Coast. They didn't work together again until 1961, when this album was recorded. With a dynamo of a rhythm section--Ray Brown, Phineas Newborn, Jr., and Ed Thigpen--the two picked up where they had left off; the bond unbroken, the old empathy quickly regained. Edwards's title tune memorialized the reunion, but the entire date was a celebration of the essential jazz values and the joy of making music with old friends.
