Product Description

This CD reissue brings back one of vibraphonist Cal Tjader's final recordings. The Latin jazz pacesetter is in typically fine form, alternating rhythmic pieces with some standards and taking "Doxy" in straightforward fashion without the percussionists. Tjader's final regular group featured pianist Mark Levine, bassist Rob Fisher, Vince Lateano on drums and timbales, future bandleader Poncho Sanchez on congas and either flutist Roger Glenn or Gary Foster (on flute, soprano and alto). Playing time is just 43 minutes (since this is a straight reissue of the original LP), but the quality is high, with the better tracks including "Guachi Guaro," "Speak Low," "Broadway" and "Doxy." ~ Scott Yanow

Recorded live at the Concord Jazz Festival, Concord Pavilion, Concord, California. Includes liner notes by Carl E. Jefferson.
